What will you be doing in this role:

The Virtual Second Option Nurse – RN (Digital Care Service Nurse) is responsible for supporting the delivery of sophisticated virtual assessment, evaluation, and advice to patients using Cedars-Sinai Second Opinion. The Nurse serves as a patient advocate and liaison throughout the second opinion process, from the first contact point to post-consultation follow up. The Digital Care Service Nurse is responsible for supporting collaborative efforts as a member of an interdisciplinary care team passionate about ensuring concierge, quality care coordination and a seamless virtual experience.

  • Ensures timely response to patient’s needs and questions providing a high touchpoint service. Engages with inquirers using the online portal which will cross state and country borders as the pilot evolves. This will require accommodating time differences between the Digital RN and patient.
  • Triages second opinion inquiries: assesses goals of consultation, screens for appropriateness for RSO process, provides education, and may provide recommendations within the scope of nursing practice and defined protocols.
  • Partners with clinical team in building the patient’s medical record and RSO case, establishing questions for consultation, and ensuring all relevant medical data is collected in advance of consultation to smooth the transition of care.
  • Works within multiple electronic systems, including Epic (CS-Link), Salesforce CRM, Ambra, Miro, and Dovetail. Will be critical in capturing data for utilization in process improvement, quality assurance, and business development initiatives.
  • Works closely with finance to ensure financial clearance prior to virtual consultation and ensures payment is refunded in a timely manner as appropriate
  • Resolves concerns and complaints throughout the patient’s journey, ensuring all clinical and non-clinical needs are met. Analyzes and solves problems and issues in a timely, effective manner; uses data and input from others to make sound, timely decisions and escalates issues to the appropriate lead.
  • Ensures adherence to established processes and compliance with privacy legislation and regulations with all parties encountered in the service delivery. Ensures changes in standards, policies, detailed criteria, and departmental guidelines are followed consistently.
  • Works closely with the multidisciplinary team members to review, design, and deploy an improved product, better customer service, and high-quality care throughout the remote second opinion process. This requires collaboration with Boston Consulting Group analytics, product, operations, and design teams as well as feedback sessions with patients, CS providers, CS Strategy, and Salesforce (CRM).

Experience Requirements:

  • Three (3)+ years of Acute care nursing experience in relevant specialty area as required.
  • One (1)+ years Triage nursing, ambulatory care, or related experience. (preferred)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of The Joint Commission and other state and local regulatory requirements.

Educational/Licenses/Certification Requirements:

Bachelors of Science in Nursing from a state accredited program.

Master of Science in Nursing. (preferred)

CA RN State License

Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association (AHA), and/or American Red Cross (ARC) Certification
