Job Details
Under the supervision of the Director of Professional Development, the Nurse Clinical Educator is responsible for facilitating and participating in QI/PI activities. He/she facilitates hospital based educational activities, Critical Care focused nursing continuing education in Cardiac and ensuring that Cardiac specific elements are included in orientation and ongoing competency for new staff members as well as current critical care staff members. He/she will coordinate with the Critical Care Managers to ensure that the Nursing units are prepared to care for critically ill adult patients and collaborate with other members of the Nursing Professional Development staff.

Job Duties:
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Ensures that initial and annual competency evaluations completed by the critical care nursing staff are pertinent.
• Works with clinical leadership to ensure the availability of equipment, medications, staffing, and other resources through the development and periodic review of standards, policies, and procedures.
• Interacts and collaborates with individuals or groups of nursing staff at the unit level to meet their learning needs to maintain clinical competency and achieve Department of Nursing and unit goals.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs to meet identified learning needs and/or to meet regulatory body or department requirements. Coordinates the development of current, evidence-based standards of care.
• Collaborates with Nursing Management Team members to identify learning needs of staff to plan educational programs/activities.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates with the appropriate individuals, an orientation program for new staff members to maximize effectiveness of orientation process.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master’s level preparation is desirable.
Experience:
3+ years’ experience in related clinical areas. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in clinical nursing practice. Demonstrates experience in planning, implementing and evaluating teaching/learning experiences. Possesses special interest and skill in the cardiac surgical care of adult patients in the intensive care setting demonstrated by training, clinical experience, or focused continuing nursing education. Maintains competency in cardiac critical care.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
Specialty certification in critical care care preferred.
Shift/Hours: Part Time, Days – 20 hours weekly
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
