The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist supports evidence-based practice (EBP) initiatives, quality improvement (QI), performance improvement (PI), and data collection across a large, multi-facility healthcare network of up to 100 hospitals and 200 clinics. This position plays a key part in enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening clinical workflows, and helping facilities adopt and sustain systemwide best practices.
This position provides expertise in change management, guiding hospitals and clinics through transitions in practice standards, operational processes, and technology use. A major focus of the position includes electronic health records (EHR) registry development, maintenance, and performance reporting – ensuring accurate data capture, registry functionality, and actionable reporting for both clinical and operational leaders.
The Specialist will partner with regional and system-level leadership to drive measurable improvement, support EBP incentive programs, standardize care processes, and coach teams in using data to inform decisions. The position requires extensive travel to hospitals and clinics for on-site support, workflow assessments, and hands-on improvement work.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Guide facilities through the implementation of EBP standards and system-defined best practices.
- Validate clinical compliance, documentation accuracy, and process adoption.
- Coach rural teams, clinical champions, and operational leaders on EBP expectations and best practices.
- Conduct workflow assessments in clinics and hospitals to identify efficiency gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Recommend and help implement workflow redesign strategies that support EBP, standardization, and operational efficiency.
- Lead and facilitate change management activities to ensure the successful adoption of new processes, tools, and technology.
- Provide education and training to staff on revised workflows and change readiness.
- Facilitate system and facility-level improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA, and other QI methodologies.
- Support the creation and monitoring of performance goals and action plans.
- Help standardize clinical and operational processes across all facilities.
- Lead on-site and virtual improvement workshops, rapid improvement events, and performance reviews.
- Lead development, optimization, and maintenance of EHR-based registries for clinical and operational metrics.
- Ensure accurate data capture, mapping, and system alignment with registry requirements.
- Generate, interpret, and distribute timely reports for facilities and system leadership.
- Validate data integrity and ensure accuracy of dashboards, scorecards, and incentive-related metrics.
- Collaborate with IT, analytics team, and vendor partners to troubleshoot and enhance registry performance.
- Build strong, productive relationships with hospital leadership, clinic managers, quality leaders, and frontline teams.
- Serve as a liaison between system quality leadership and facility-level teams.
- Participate in system committees, collaborative groups, and project teams focused on improvement and standardization.
- Extensive travel (up to 75-90%), including overnight stays and travel to rural clinics and community hospitals.
- Ability to work independently while traveling with minimal on-site supervision.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree
- 5 or more years of healthcare experience, certification in quality or PI, familiarity with CMS, Joint Commission, and national quality metrics.
Knowledge Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams
