Job Description

Clinical Safety Program Advisor

Cigna Healthcare is seeking a Clinical Safety Program Advisor to help advance patient safety across care and health services delivery environments. In this role, you will support complex, cross-functional safety initiatives that reduce preventable harm, improve reliability, and strengthen a culture of transparency, learning, and continuous improvement. You will partner with clinical, operational, quality, legal, and compliance stakeholders to turn safety priorities into clear plans, measurable actions, and sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Translate clinical safety priorities into project charters, integrated workplans, timelines, governance routines, and executive-ready updates that support on-time delivery.

  • Partner with business unit leaders and operational owners to embed safety requirements into care delivery models, workflows, and patient-facing processes.

  • Applies clinical knowledge, judgement and experience to coordinate clinical event reporting, investigation, escalation, and follow-up workflows by clarifying ownership, maintaining logs, tracking timelines, and ensuring documentation is complete.

  • Facilitate structured safety reviews leveraging healthcare experience to synthesize themes, document decisions, and track corrective and preventive actions through closure and sustained effectiveness.

  • Support proactive risk mitigation by reviewing governance report outs, performance summaries, safety trends, and action plans to identify emerging risks and recommended next steps.

  • Maintain leadership-ready dashboards, logs, and status reports that connect safety program delivery to outcomes, including adverse events, near misses, and corrective action plans.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment and change support by preparing clear communications, resolving dependencies, and escalating complex questions to appropriate clinical safety, quality, legal, or compliance partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Clinical background, such as RN, PharmD, or similar experience. Must have subsequent state licensure, as applicable.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical safety, patient safety, quality, clinical risk management, or a combination of related experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience applying project management/change management best practices across cross-functional teams or multiple workstreams.

  • Experience supporting large clinical safety, quality, or clinical risk initiatives, including intake/reporting, triage, investigation support, mitigation tracking, and follow-up to closure.

  • Experience utilizing clinical background while facilitating structured safety investigations or proactive risk assessments, such as Root Cause Analysis, Common Cause Analysis, Apparent Cause Analysis, or FMEA.

  • Working knowledge of performance improvement methods and systems-based approaches to care delivery, such as Lean or Six Sigma concepts.

  • Strong analytical, communication, facilitation, collaboration, and change support skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in a matrixed environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Patient safety, quality, or project management certification, such as CPPS, CPHQ, PMP, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • Experience coaching or mentoring project team members and driving consistent execution practices across multidisciplinary teams.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 95,500 – 159,100 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
