Job Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP (ADHD Clinic)

Position Overview
Overall responsibilities include the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan through evaluations and medication management. Patients whose evaluation shows a primary diagnosis of ADHD continue their care in the ADHD Clinic. Patients with comorbid psychiatric diagnoses are referred to Alleviant’s outpatient psychiatry clinic.

While this position is primarily telehealth, in-person visits at an Alleviant clinic within reasonable commuting distance may be required as needed to comply with current or future State and Federal regulations, including DEA requirements for prescribing controlled substances via telemedicine, or to meet clinical and operational needs.

  • Prescribes and manages stimulant and non-stimulant medications in line with current clinical guidelines and State and Federal controlled-substance regulations, including PDMP review and lab testing.
  • Adjusts treatment for developmental stage, including pediatric growth and appetite monitoring, adolescent transition, and adult presentations.
  • Prepares and maintains confidential records and reports.
  • Ensures treatment plans are devised, updated, and carried out.
  • Works in collaboration with the Alleviant psychiatrist to develop treatment plans.
  • Monitors the use of medications.
  • Advises patients, families, and caregivers on the condition, treatment options, and school and workplace strategies.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment regimen and the client’s progress.
  • Enforces all HIPAA compliance guidelines, including telehealth privacy and security standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Requires ability to work under stressful situations demanding high concentration and energy level.
  • Requires extended periods of computer and video-conferencing use.
  • Must maintain a private, HIPAA-compliant workspace with reliable high-speed internet for telehealth visits.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Advanced knowledge of ADHD diagnosis and treatment across the lifespan, including stimulant and non-stimulant pharmacotherapy, age-based dosing, and side-effect management.
  • Ability to distinguish ADHD from overlapping or comorbid conditions such as anxiety, depression, learning disorders, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, and substance use.
  • Comfortable delivering care via telehealth, including engaging younger patients and families virtually.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry, including CMS, and Federal regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Carries out all duties in a professional and courteous manner.
